Kitchen counters can take on several different shapes and sizes. If you have a little counter, you may spend a significant amount of time complaining about how little it can hold. You could also complain that your large counter draws attention to itself. Regardless of its size, here are some suggestions for keeping your kitchen counters tidy and organized.

Keep Counters Clear

It seems like such a no-brainer, but the first step to having an organized counter is to ensure that it is clear. Keep all of your appliances and gadgets off the countertop, as well as any ingredients or dishes you’re currently using.

Try to put things back to where they belong as soon as you’re done using them. That way, you won’t have to waste time searching for items later on. If you don’t have enough space in your cabinets or pantry to store everything, consider investing in some storage containers that you can keep on the countertop.

Don’t Store Food on the Counter

Just as you shouldn’t store appliances and gadgets on your countertop, you also don’t want to keep food there. Not only is it unsightly, but it can also lead to bacteria growth. Store food in kitchen cabinets or a pantry if you have one.

Although some foods can, of course, be stored on the counter (think: fruit), try to keep it to a minimum if you don’t want to have a cluttered counter.

Go for Glass Containers

If you’re going to store things on your countertop, try to use glass containers. They look more attractive than plastic ones and can be used for a variety of different purposes. Glass containers can be used to store everything from spices and herbs to pasta and rice.

Label Your Containers

OK, so you store things on the countertop using glass containers or jars. How do you remember what’s in each one? By labeling them, of course! This will help you quickly find what you’re looking for and prevent any unwanted surprises when you go to cook.

Create Zones

If you’re struggling to keep your counters organized, try creating zones. This means designating certain areas for specific purposes. For example, you could have a baking zone, a cooking zone, and a cleaning zone.

Having designated areas will help keep everything in its place and make it easier to find what you’re looking for. Plus, it will make your countertop look more organized and tidy.

Wipe Down Counters Daily

Wiping down your counters is a simple task that doesn’t take long to do. But it can make a big difference in the overall appearance of your kitchen. As part of your regular cleaning routine, you should be wiping down your counters every day. This will help prevent bacteria growth and keep your counters looking clean and shiny.

Ensure that Your Dishwashing Area is Clear

If you have a dishwashing area in your kitchen, be sure to keep it clear. This means storing all of your dishes and appliances in the cabinets or drawers. Having an organized dishwashing area will make it easier to clean up after meals.

A cluttered dishwashing area can also lead to water and grease stains on your countertop. So, it’s best to keep it as clear as possible.

Designate a Spot for Keys and Mail

If your countertop is where you tend to drop your keys and mail when you walk in the door, it’s time to find a new spot for those items. Choose a place near the door, such as a hook or basket, and make it a habit to put your keys, mail, and maybe some coins there as soon as you walk in. That way, you won’t have to worry about searching for them later on, and your countertop will stay neat and tidy.

These are just a few essential tips for keeping your kitchen counters organized and tidy without spending a lot of time cleaning or money on new storage containers. Implement these tips into your daily routine, and you’ll be able to keep your counters looking neat and tidy in no time!
