The Surprising Things You Might Be Able To Make Some Money From

Whether you’re in need of some quick cash as soon as you can grab it, or you’re simply looking to put a little extra towards your savings whenever you can, most of us have a little cash left lying around. We just might not be aware of it. Here, we’re going to look at some of the most commonly overlooked sources of a little extra money and how you can turn those unexpected finds into cash.

Unused Gift Cards

Many of us get gift cards, whether we pick them up when they’re on sale or someone picks us up a fast and convenient present. If you’ve not used yours, however, and you think you might not before they expire, don’t let them sit in your wallet. Unused and even partially unused gift cards can be sold online for cash or traded for ones you’ll actually use. There are even gift card websites to help you trade them.

Board Games, Toys & Nostalgic Goods

Whether you were once a collector of Pokémon cards or are lucky enough to be one of the rare few to have an older board game edition with all (or even most) of the pieces, you could get a surprising amount of money for them. Right now, the market for collectibles is truly booming, with particularly nostalgic items in high demand. If you have any limited-edition games or discontinued toys, you could make more than you might expect.

Old Coins And Precious Metals

You might think that there’s a little money in a jar of old coins, or even some inherited bullion, but you might not reckon it’s worth that much. However, rare coins, especially those with some historical significance or minting errors, can come with high demand, and it’s worth finding where to bring valuable coins for appraisal. Even common bullion, like gold coins or silver rounds, can net you a decent price, though it’s always worth watching the market for how precious metals are moving in value.

Your Photography

If you’re a skilled hand with the camera, you don’t have to be a career photographer to make a little money from it. Aside from taking on stints as an event or wedding photographer, you can make money by selling your hobby photographs to stock image websites. If you have some particularly good photos with a broad appeal, you can even turn them into posters or prints to sell online.

Your Old Home Decor

Old furniture is thrown away much too often, especially when it can be flipped with a little makeover, or even sold as-is for a profit if it has developed a vintage look. Comfy, characterful chairs, retro lamps, and even worn dressers can find new life with DIYers or antique lovers. If you’re crafty, a little refinishing, repainting, or reupholstering can do a world of good.

It’s always worth looking through your old belongings. You never know what might be an unexpected treasure trove, or at least where you can get a few extra bucks when you need them.
