3 Hard Landscaping Ideas for Low Maintenance Yards

Gardening isn’t for everyone. And if the thought of having to mow a lawn, tend to plants, or upkeep a thriving, growing outdoor space doesn’t appeal to you, hard landscaping might just be the perfect compromise. Not everyone wants to or has the physical capability of tending to a garden or having an abundance of plant life in the backyard. And this is where adding hardscaped areas can be beneficial, relieving you from the constant maintenance and allowing you to enjoy your outdoor space more.

Choosing hard landscaping doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice greenery. You can still incorporate plants as you wish. These ideas are meant to inspire you to transform your yard into a more minimalist yet stylish and functional space. With hard landscaping, you have the freedom to create a unique outdoor area that reflects your preferences and lifestyle.

Concreted Spaces

If you want to create a cohesive space and have one material running through your backyard for a seamless look, then working with concrete contractors can allow you to uncover the beauty of stonework using concrete services, which can be exactly what you need. Concrete is highly durable, and once it’s laid, you can expect to have to do very little of it except for the occasional cleaning. However, thanks to staining and expert craftsmanship, you don’t need to just have plain concrete surfaces. You can create the illusion of stone thanks to intricate designs and features made entirely of concrete but with the look of stone. From walls to pathways, planters, boulders, and more, you can enhance your space with concrete stone work landscaping without it looking like a boring parking lot.

Decking

You can choose to deck all or just part of your outdoor space with either wooden decking or composite decking. This can be an effective alternative for spaces that aren’t all the same level or need elevated access to use, etc. It can also give you a more defined space that is easier to care for and maintain, especially if you choose a composite design for your garden.

The size and design of your decking will depend on your needs and the area you want to cover. If you’re looking for a low-maintenance option, decking could be the perfect choice. Once it’s installed, you’ll have a functional outdoor space that requires minimal upkeep.

Paving and Gravel

If you’re covering a large area, how about creating flooring using tiles and gravel? The different materials will provide contrast and break up the space as you can use the tiles to create a pathway of your choosing, for example, and use gravel to fill in the spaces surrounding it. This can be effective for many yards and uses, and once you have laid the tiles and gravel, you don’t really have much to do aside from tidying the gravel up if it’s moved out of place. This might not be a good idea if you have young kids or pets who could ingest the gravel, and larger stones or solidifying the gravel in resin might be alternative options, but for an excellent hardscaping design, these two pair well together and have a striking visual appeal when used correctly.
