Eating Healthy When Money Is Tight

July 26, 2022 · In: Food

In this economy, it is hard to eat right. The cost of living increases by the day and the money in your pocket are being devalued by the day. There is no greater evidence of this than if you walk into your local grocery store.

When you don’t have enough funds in your bank account, or even grocery items in your fridge, it is quite difficult to ensure that you are eating a balanced, healthy diet. When money is tight, we must resort to unhealthy cheap foods, such as processed meats and soda pop. Instead of forcing yourself to digest fatty foods, there are a variety of methods to utilize to make sure that you are eating healthy on a balanced budget.

Internet searches

Do a simple Google search and find the numerous recipes that will assist you in your journey to eating healthy when money is tight. Websites such as cooks.com, allrecipes.com, readersdigest.ca, and epicurious.com will come up.

Cookbooks

Go to a local bookstore and search the cookbooks section. There, you will find hundreds of cookbooks that will cater to the topic of cheap healthy recipes. You can also look for cookbooks that have recipes that do not contain many ingredients.

Search the kitchen

Many of us neglect the items that we have in our cupboards and in the fridge. It is definitely feasible to find some of the healthy foods that you wouldn’t eat if there was a house full of chips, cookies, beef or white bread. If you find a bag of rice, some vegetables, a chicken breast, and herbs, you have a full meal right there that is good for you.

Grocery sales

Grocery stores have weekly sales. If these outlets have a great sale on, for example, chicken and vegetables, buy a month’s worth to make sure that if you are low on cash, you have food in the house that won’t give you coronary heart disease.

Eat at home, not out

If you’re a person who eats out a lot, please stop. Eating out costs a lot of money and you will certainly not stretch your dollars if this is a constant practice.

Think about it, the average meal for two at a restaurant costs approximately $20 to $25. For that amount of money, you can buy a lot of groceries.

Fruit desserts

Dessert is heavenly and delectable, but also expensive. If you want to expand your wallet, and not your waist, attempt to convert to fruit desserts. Try some poached pears, apple and pear granola crisp, blueberry vanilla sorbet, or vanilla-roasted plums for cheaper alternatives to indulge your sweet tooth.
