What to Do With Your Dog When You Travel

February 25, 2025 · In: Living

It’s fun to be able to go on vacation even though it can be stressful to get everything ready. You’ve got to pack everything, find your passports. Even the part about booking your vacation can be stressful if you’re not doing it properly. You might panic that you forgot something essential or you forgot to leave the security lights on.

But all that aside, vacations are a great time with the whole family and most of the time we look forward to these. But what do you do when you have a dog? Your dog may not be able to come with you on a vacation, especially if you’re planning to go abroad. All those times you went on road trips together or you went to local campsites is one thing, but going on a plane and going to a completely new destination is entirely another.

When it comes to actually making a holiday happen, pets can really cause more problems than expired passports because you are still responsible for a living and breathing thing and that’s where places like Board and Train dog training come in. Leaving your dog at the right boarding place is a smart idea, but it requires you to put in the time and research to find out what the right one is. So here’s what you can do with your dog while you travel.

  1. Go for boarding. There are plenty of destinations that allow you to board your dog so that you can keep them in a place that is like a dorm for dogs. Boarding homes give dogs their own spaces and often there is a tiered system for payment so you can be able to keep your dog in a special room or they can have a suite and the more you pay the better the space they have.
  2. Ask a friend to help. If you have a friend who’s offered a favor at some point, then it’s time now to call in that favour. Call around your friends and family to see if anybody can have your dog with them for a couple of weeks while you go away. It’s a chance for them to get to know each other a little better, and with a friend you can trust that your dog will be looked after. Friends and family are a great place to start because usually, even if it’s only short term, they’d be more than happy to look after your dog for you.
  3. Take a look at dog setting websites. If friends and family are not available to help out on the dates that you want to go on vacation, then you need to see whether or not you can get a dog sitter. Dog sitters are again paid for, but they can either host your dog at their home or they can come to your home at certain times during the day that your dog can be walked and fed.

Having a dog shouldn’t stop you from going on vacation, but you should make sure your dog is well looked after when you go.
